The greater Seattle region is a world leader for global health innovation and education. Collaboration is key to creating life-saving solutions. Global Health Nexus, an initiative of the Washington Global Health Alliance, is a community effort to inspire involvement while increasing public awareness about diseases and health issues that affect vulnerable populations here and abroad.

McCaw Hall
This contest challenges high school, community college and undergraduate university students in Washington state to advance sustainable solutions, awareness and innovation in global health. More than 250 students from schools across the state applied and the winning teams will be highlighted at Groundswell.

Next Fifty Pavilion in Center Square
The exhibit introduces global health challenges to the public through four personal stories from different countries across the globe, focusing on malaria, maternal newborn child health, diabetes, water and sanitation and cancer. Experience and respond to the life of a person affected by these challenges and learn about the global health innovations coming from Seattle.

Washington State Convention Center
Life Science Innovation Northwest brings together nearly 1000 attendees from public and private companies, research institutions, scientists, entrepreneurs, and our global health community. Public and private investors, investment bankers and industry executives focused on business development and partnering opportunities in life sciences are the key audience. Jeff Raikes, CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will give the keynote address. A VIP reception will occur on the 10th.

McCaw Hall
Groundswell rallies the community around global health successes and educates the community about goals not yet reached, but within sight. Melinda Gates will give the keynote address at this 3,000 person, public event organized by the Washington Global Health Alliance, in close partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Winners of Nexus’ “Be the Change” student competition will be honored onstage as well as grantees of Saving Lives at birth and the Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity & Stillbirth Grand Challenges.

Agency, formerly Party with a Purpose, inspires “Next Gen” involvement in the local global health movement. More than 1,000 20 and 30-somethings will gather at McCaw Hall for a millennial-planned, semi-formal event. 2012 attendees will enjoy dancing, networking, and exploring some of the region’s most cutting-edge global health technologies. Agency believes that focusing the power of young adults on a single cause, even just for one night, can unlock the potential to drive lasting change.

Seattle Repertory Theatre
Global Health Nexus, along with health care providers, non-profit organizations, and faith-based congregations unites the faith community in an effort against global health challenges. This event features a nationally known health leader, a panel of local congregationally-based initiatives, a family-oriented “packaging” project and an exhibit fair featuring the global health work of these different organizations.
